From Clay to Creation
It starts with clay we source locally, which arrives heavy, damp, and full of tiny air pockets that have to come out before anything else happens. We wedge it by hand — kneading it almost like bread dough — until it's smooth and ready to work with.
From there it's either thrown on the wheel or built up by hand, depending on the piece. Once it's shaped and dried to a firm, leather-like state, we trim the base and clean up the edges. This is where a lot of the character gets refined.
The clay then goes through two separate firings in the kiln, with glazing in between, and each round takes real time — you can't rush a kiln. From raw material to a finished piece on our shelves, the whole process usually takes a few weeks.
